so there i was wondering….

like most times when i’m bored or have a date with the gang, i’m usually found lurking behind San Francisco cafe. ok not really lurking but sitting idle staring the world in the face……let me try to illustrate my typical bored day:

1. a certain lecturer usually hangs around there at lunch hour. i don’t know him, but he’s got this graceful strut. not feminine, just graceful. he usually has a sandwich / croissant and coffee from San Fran. oh, and he’s pretty tall too. looks like a foreigner to me. always in a neatly pressed shirt tucked into dark slacks.
2. the interesting bunch of Arab / Middle Eastern students that make it their hideaway. they come in flocks of 3-5..sometimes even 7. why do i not mind my business instead of staring? well, the girls have such good taste in fashion! like yeah, they’re covered up and modest but they really know how to dress to impress!
3. occasionally…….OCCASIONALLY….2 really cute Canadian lecturers would be sitting at the next table. well, before i start drooling over the keyboard trying to put into words this magnificent feast-for-the-eyes..i shall just leave it to your (wild) imagination about what goes through my head! (for hints, consult Kat C.L.Tan) by the way, the one that makes me raise the ‘10 pts’ score card is the dark-haired guy!
4. the rest of the people that hang around there usually go unnoticed by me. i don’t know why, maybe it takes a lot to get my attention. maybe if a couple of well-dressed male escorts (read: Il Divo) were to walk by, i’d actually sit up instead of slouching back in the chair. maybe i’d even try to get THEIR attention!
5. then there are the usual men/women who come around wiping the tables and clearing the mess left by those who dined there. from experience, i can just advice those who read this: PLEASE mind your eating habits! the people who have to clean up after you are HUMAN too. once in a while, a waiter from San Fran would walk from table to table serving samples of some new concoction. and they taste pretty good! but then again, you don’t really know WHAT was blended in that goop but heck, it tasted yummy!!

otherwise, it’s just me waiting for the rest of the gang to show up. or i’m just there enjoying my own company. today i was fortunate enough to be entertained by Pooi Yarn. yes, Pooi Yarn..i AM writing about YOU! you might want to discover my REAL intent, not just take the text at face value (in other words, our COM 2407 assignment is SICK, TOUGH, and such a BRAIN-DRAIN that i’m having nightmares already!!!)

“4 more books to being a SOCIAL OUTCAST!”…

just when you thought you were going to enjoy another wonderful semester, you suddenly get bogged down with assignments/ reviews/ tough lectures/ even tougher lecturers!..etc. then all the fun gets sucked away and you find yourself in vacumn. while floating around you bump into various objects and bruise yourself silly. then you realize ‘hey! maybe I should actually open my eyes instead of wandering around blind’.

but that really is the FUN of it all. think about it, without all those horrible things in life what would you bitch about when you’re with your friends? if everything was nice and dandy, life wouldn’t have that ‘zing’ now would it? imagine all your enemies drowned in Niagara or disappeared of the radar in Bermuda, then all you’re left is to start making enemies with the friends you have now! you may think it’s corny or stupid but hey…haven’t you EVER wondered…even ONCE?!

so you lie in bed and unwind….then check up that calender of yours. see? your assignments are DUE like anytime now! so what ARE you gonna do? that’s right…navigate the library for every reference you can find. then when you think you’ve got enough books to carry, take them to the front desk. of course your next problem will then be making sense of the (god-damn) assignment question. asking the lecturer might help you…or NOT! now that you’ve gathered a mountain of un-discovered knowledge, it’s now up to you to try and digest enough of it to start your assignments. but the catch is this: how much CAN your brain ‘eat’…..in SUCH a short span of time? do YOU have enough ‘drive-space’, coz you wouldn’t want to push 5Kb in to a 3 1/2 Kb drive….or would you DARE?!

so the lesson you learn is, try putting in little by little in frequent intervals. hence, you’ll be making a lot of trips to the library, to quench your thirst/ or non-thirst…..with all those books in your hand, how are you going to carry them out? ask a friend to help of course! but then your friend must also DESIRE INSANITY like you. so together you and your friend have achieved something strange (in the eyes of others) but yet there is a little satisfaction. there is an almost hidden, secret ‘yes!’ and ‘more, more..’ as you take those books out of the library. suddenly, KNOWLEDGE as it were has seduced you!

coming back to reality, the books are still there…on your table. they’re still staring at you as you lay in bed dreaming. they almost WANT you to touch them, to hold them close, feeling their smooth pages with your fingers…and your brain like a sponge sucks in every word from their paragraphs, inhaling themes, swallowing the letters one by one (each as if coated with cream/ sugar/ honey or syrup)…..so ponder if you will then, on such a day…when knowledge intices you so subtle that the silence is far from a shrill scream on a full-moon night…….

btw, if you’re wondering about the title….you might want to request the wisdom of Ann Lee….let her ENLIGHTEN you…..

realized why Byron has been misunderstood all this time: he created his best works while he was doped!
hey, Cobain did it too….so did the Beatles, and even Hendrix…
Byron wanted to "explore" the subconcious, tap into the unknown realm of the human mind - the side that normally isn’t ’seen’ as it were. discovering your ‘other’ self actually. when induced we tend to see a different side of things: maybe with a little weed, my pin-up of Joaqin might just look me in the eye and say "wanna walk the line with me?" right! (but i’d prefer a trip to the rodeo with Jake ….just me n Jake thank you very much!) (????????)

fine, i’ll lay off the stuff! we studied Brit-American & African-American Music today. Aretha sounds great! next week, she (the lecturer) said we’ll be doing Country n Western (help!) was online with Fatimah a while ago. planning to meet up with her tomorrow after her exam. my tute only starts at 3pm, so we’ve got quite a bit of catching up to do till then. she might drag her sis along. haven’t seen her in ages too. what else did i do today? nothing fascinating, nothing important, nothing that’s gonna make it to the Hall of Fame.

guess that’s it. oh, btw…i left a comment on Victor’s blog. think he’ll know which one when he reads it! i hope…..i mean i was quite transparent…..really…
